THE CARYS THOMAS AWARD

Rosie Gaskin, the Vice President of the Inner Wheel Club of Rhyl accompanied by Secretary Barbara McEvoy, presented the first of which will be an annual award to Christopher Jones with a certificate, a cheque and a cup to be passed on year by year, for up to 20 years. The Carys Thomas Award is given in memory of a dear Club member who died in 2015, aged 101. She bequeathed money to go to a good cause of the Inner Wheel Club of Rhyl’s choosing. Our choice was Rhyl High School’s example of Service and/or Caring.

Carys, a former teacher herself, was a wonderful, kind, intelligent and caring person, the daughter of a Rhyl clergyman. She embodied the ideals of Inner Wheel; had a keen interest in young people and understanding of the value of service, whether in a school community or one’s town.

The 2016 recipient, and undoubtedly future recipients of the Carys Thomas Award - will go on to follow Inner Wheel’s mission to make a real difference to other people and a positive impact in the community.

The Inner Wheel Club of Rhyl is proud to support the town of Rhyl, its High School, its pupils and all they do. We know that Carys would have approved of the Club’s decision to recognise SERVICE and CARING by a Rhyl High School pupil in this way.
